Totally Reliable Delivery Service

Trds was a challenging project to work on, at Abstraction we took on this project to port it to Ps4, Xbox and Switch. The challenge with the project was that it was in no way setup correctly and we struggled with memory and performance in the end we got it to work.

Terrible controls, its a feature

The game fall in a odd category where the controls being bad is in fact part of the experience, We wanted to improve some interactions for our console gamers but in the end stuck with the original controls, the player controls their ragdoll character and can grab hold of things with their arms. This way they can control cars, interact with buttons/levers and grab hold of each other. Testing this game was rather frustrating at times because of having to endure these controls however for the party-like vibe this game has I'm sure its fun.

Memory and performance

The game was a typical case of having everything loaded, all the time, everywhere. We had to work hard to make sure we didn't go over our memory budget or simply had to much on screen to render/iterate through.  Adding loading areas of course came with issues since not everything was available at all time any more but in the end we got it working.

The Switch port

Advice was given to the client to focus the budget on hooking up switch features such as couch play but in the end the budget was used to push the 4 player split screen 30fps experience. This was a lot of work and looking back at it i still think that this game would have benefitted more from more switch console features then 4 player 30fps split screen but the client in the end is who decides.
